Bathing Beauties Barely Bare?!

  • Expansion of the railway system meant traveling to the coast became accessible to all
  • Reveal the demure all-in-one outfits worn by both men and women, including caps and shoes
  • The bathing machine was used to change into the cumbersome outfits in privacy
  • It was then wheeled right into the sea to allow bathers to enter the water in ease

100 years ago shows how people used to frolic in the sand in near head-to-toe outfits, complete with hats.

Before the 1900s women hit the waves in full gowns and bloomers but the impracticality of this meant that the all-in-one fitted beach suit began to be introduced for women as well as men.

Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Show June 8-9 Lake Arrowhead, CA

Sleek wooden boats have been slicing through Lake Arrowhead’s waters for nearly a century.  Beginning in the 1920’s, sleek wooden boats began gracing our mountain lakes. For the next 30 years, more and more of their glistening natural wood hulls were showing off through the waters with their unique rumble.

These beauties were expensive and guaranteed attention-getters. As such, they were the choice of the rich and famous.

Antique boats will vie for trophies and can be viewed up close at the Lake Arrowhead Village docks.

On display throughout the village will be vintage woodie cars, hot rods, antique wooden boat models and early outboard motors. Antique boats will also be for sale throughout the village.

The show is produced by the Rim of the World Historical Society with the assistance of the Arrowhead Lake Association, the Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce, the Antique & Classic Boat Society, the Up The Hill Woodie Club and Lake Arrowhead Village.

Vintage Ads

It never ceases to amaze me the crazy things I find in vintage ads.  I love old ads because it tells you the mind state of our society at the time.  Including what was considered  acceptable and what we did not.  I do know that many vintage ads could be found offensive to some and before I post anything I just want everyone to know, I do not mean to offend anyone, just share the craziness of our past!

Yes, these are all real and I was shocked too!
